I believe that in life you get what you focus on. Easy. If you want to feel happy, focus on something that makes you happy. Well, it’s more difficult. But possible.
That’s why I have a challenge game for you. You can work out a process that will serve you whenever you want.
These are the three easy steps to feeling good in a second.
Find a quiet place where you will be able to go through the exercise.
Step 1 – List emotions
Make a list o positive emotions and feelings that you want to have a lot of in your life. Unleash a brainstorm. Write down as many as you can. Below, you will find a list of 30 that I came up with. Treat them as a cue, but do not get hooked at the list’s length or content.
Step 2 – Recall emotions
When your list is ready, for each emotion, remember the time when you felt it. Recall it well. Pay attention to details. What was happening? What did you see? What did you hear? Who was there with you? What did you do? What did you say? Etc.
Make it so intense that you feel the emotion again.
Step 3 – Prompt emotions
When you remember this situation and feel the emotion again, in this high state, write down as many things as you can that will help you provoke this emotion. These are things that appeared in the picture you recalled. Still, there might be some new elements that just came to your mind and you associate with that emotion. The more of those triggers you will write down, the richer your repertoire of your focus will be.
The easier then it will be for you to evoke and … provoke a given emotion.
